Carroll Man Wins $50K on Scratch-Off (2024)

CARROLL, OH — A visit to Carroll for work turned into a $50,000 windfall for an Ohio Lottery player who purchased a winning Money Maker scratch-off ticket at Speedway #9226 on Winchester Road.

The winner, who stopped to refuel his car, decided to try his luck with the $30 Money Maker scratch-off. Upon scratching the ticket, he was surprised to find he had won $50,000. After taxes, he will take home approximately $36,000 and plans to invest his winnings.

The Money Maker scratch-off offers a top prize of $80,000 a year for 25 years, with five top prizes still remaining as of August 30.

    Roxbury Officers Recover Firearm After Report of Person with Gun

    BOSTON, Mass. — A Boston man was arrested Thursday morning after Roxbury officers responded to a report of a person with a gun in the area of Island Street and Gerald Street.

    At approximately 8:33 a.m., officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) were dispatched following a call reporting that a suspect had assaulted a victim and displayed a firearm. Upon arrival, officers quickly located the suspect, identified as Richard Garofalo, 28, of Boston.

    During a pat frisk, officers recovered a firearm from Garofalo’s backpack. The weapon was identified as a Smith and Wesson 380 Bodyguard with one round in the chamber and six rounds in the magazine. The serial number on the firearm had been obliterated.

    Garofalo was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a dangerous weapon on a public way, and defacement of a firearm serial number. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.

    Traffic Stop in Dorchester Leads to Recovery of Firearm, Arrest

    BOSTON, Mass. — A routine traffic stop in Dorchester early Monday morning led to the arrest of a Hyde Park man on multiple charges, including firearm and drug offenses.

    Boston police officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) pulled over a vehicle at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Washington Street after noticing the car's expired registration. The driver, identified as Lorenzo Beechman, 37, was subsequently removed from the vehicle due to safety concerns.

    During the investigation, officers discovered a firearm under the passenger seat and a plastic bag containing a substance believed to be crack cocaine. Beechman attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended following a brief foot chase outside 287 Washington Street.

    The firearm was identified as a loaded Smith & Wesson Shield 9EZ 9MM, with a round in the chamber and eight additional rounds in the magazine. Beechman faces several charges, including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a Class B substance, and resisting arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

    Atlantic City Police Recover Two Handguns in Separate Incidents, Three Arrested

    ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Atlantic City Police Department arrested three individuals and recovered two handguns in separate incidents involving juveniles on Friday night.

    The first incident occurred at approximately 9:05 p.m. on the 100 block of North New Jersey Avenue. Officers responded to a report of a man pointing a firearm at a group of teenagers. Sergeant Garry Stowe identified the suspect as Haneef Bashir, 45, of Atlantic City, after speaking with the teens and obtaining a description. A search of Bashir’s vehicle by Officer Zayon Pitts led to the discovery of a loaded handgun. Bashir was arrested without incident.

    Shortly thereafter, at 9:22 p.m., Officers Adrianna Petinga, Isabella Rando, Gissell Garcia, and Franco Sydnor were dispatched to Bally’s Atlantic City following a report of an unattended infant in a hotel room. Security personnel had been alerted by a housekeeper who found the child alone after the room’s occupants, Jequan Campbell, 33, and Teeah McCall, 33, both of Erwin, North Carolina, had requested items from housekeeping and then left the room. Campbell was found in possession of a handgun when officers located the couple. Medical personnel evaluated the infant, and the New Jersey Department of Child Protection & Permanency was notified.

    Bashir faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a weapon and aggravated assault. He has been remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Campbell, who faces charges including endangering the welfare of children and unlawful possession of a weapon, was also remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. McCall was charged with endangering the welfare of children and released on a summons.
