Why wasn't Demián Bichir in The Nun 2? ›

It's possible that Valak caused Father Burke to fall ill between the events of The Nun and The Nun 2. Demián Bichir has been busy with other projects since The Nun, including The Grudge, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Let the Right One In.

Most people would run if they saw what looks to be the ghost of the hanged nun that was quite literally chilling in the freezer an hour ago. A ghostly Sister Victoria drags a rope behind her as she leads Frenchie to the cemetery — before turning into what looks like a deranged zombie.

There are descriptions of suicide, lots of blood, slashed skin, stabbing, dead bodies, burning bodies, a man is buried alive (but escapes), shooting, demonic possession and all that stuff. There is some strong language and drinking (wine, beer, etc.)

By overly relying on jump scares, "The Nun" uses a mechanical approach toward instilling fear rather than a more profound understanding of terror. Content collapsed. Alas, The Nun is more chaotic than most of the many, many films set in The Conjuring universe.

But Irene won't burn, revealing that she is also a descendant of St. Lucy. In need of a miracle, Irene and Debra pray over communion wine that was spilled in the courtyard during the fight to turn it into the blood of Christ and wield it against Valak.

However, the movie reveals that Sister Irene and Lorraine Warren are from the same bloodline. This was revealed when the movie explored Sister Irene's heritage, and it showed she is a descendant of Saint Lucy.

2017 saw the release of another prequel, Annabelle: Creation, telling the origin story of the Annabelle doll. Farmiga and Wilson briefly appeared as Ed and Lorraine in the 2018 spin-off film The Nun, focusing on the character of Valak in its "Demon Nun" form, who was the villain from The Conjuring 2.

The Nun movies are actually prequels to The Conjuring series. While The Nun and its sequel take part in the 1950s, The Conjuring is set in the 1970s. Valak torments a young nun throughout the series, and it's only when Lorraine encounters Valak two decades after that we see the demon defeated.

Scarier than its predecessor, The Nun II makes for an entertaining addition to the Conjuring franchise despite not being the most original horror sequel. Better than the first one, The Nun II makes up for its so-so story with plenty of fun jump scares.
